About Bertina
Bertina Rose Marie (Frank) Hanson passed away January 26, 2024, peacefully at her long-time home in rural Bagley. Bertina was born July 13,1938 in Bagley Mn to Bert and Rosie Frank. Bert and Rosie Frank were immigrants from Czechoslovakia and had purchased a 120-acre farm southwest of Bagley alongside many in Bert’s family.
Bertina grew up on her family’s farm with her sisters Helen (Sedlmajer) and Bette (Vaccaro). The girls helped in every way and Bertina, at age 11 learned how to ride the tractor. She loved that because her two older sisters before her had to use a team of horses.
Bertina graduated from Bagley High School in 1956 and from there made her way to Duluth, MN, where she worked as a receptionist and became a member of the Moose Lodge in Proctor. In Duluth, she met Ronald Hanson. They were later married on April 15, 1961, at St Joseph’s Catholic church on a very snowy day. They lived, worked, and started a family on Sunnyside Street in Chicago, Il. Several years later they moved the family to Bagley where they managed the Dutch Mill Motel and eventually moved to their permanent residence, just down the road from her childhood home, southwest of Bagley.
Over the years she greatly enjoyed the times spent with her two sisters, Helen, and Bette. They loved having adventures together and going to different places. Bertina loved traveling and was a member of the “50’s and older club”, traveling to places such as Martha’s Vinyard, Sedona, AZ and to see the Twins play. She loved her Twins.
Bertina or Bertie, as some would call her, worked for The Clearwater County Nursing service for over 30 years. She had such a gift for caring for people and you could hardly get around town without someone knowing Bertina or knowing someone she had taken care of. She has been a longtime member of St Joseph’s church in Bagley. She loved her church family and enjoyed serving there.
Bertina is preceded in death by both her parents Bert and Rosie, her husband Ron in 2005, her nephew Andy Vaccaro, her Brother-in-Law Joe Sedlmajer, and her sisters Bette and Helen.
She is survived by her son Billy (Mary), granddaughter Vanessa (Dillon) Dell’Aquilla, grandson Andy Hanson, Daughter Corrine (John) Frame, Daughter Teresa (Tom) Brennan and many loved nieces and nephews.
