Barton “Bart” Wayne Hammer, age 86, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 18, 2025, of natural causes.
Born on December 11, 1938, in St. Paul, MN, Bart was the third of seven children of Dwight and Crystal (Wood) Hammer. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for cars, which led him into a lifelong career as an auto mechanic. He began working at Carver General Repair at a young age and later became a proud business owner, operating Bart’s Freeway Service Station on the east side of St. Paul. After many fulfilling years there, he returned to Carver Repair, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 80.
Bart was a devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Marie Carol (Piel) Hammer. Together they built a loving family and shared countless memories. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—taking rides in his beloved ’64 Impala, cheering at Cedar Lake Speedway, and attending his grandchildren’s ball games.
He is survived by his sons Craig (Kelly Fellman) and Steven (Margie Weber); three grandchildren, Aaron Hammer, Alyssa Riley (Jerome), and Katherine Hammer; and one great-grandson, Knox Riley. He is also survived by his sister Brenda and brothers Dwight and George, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bart was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Crystal Hammer; and siblings Ronald Hammer, Maxine Rupkus, and Janice Lattary.
Rest in peace, Dad. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
