life story

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barry John Petersen, age 65, on December 15, 2024. Barry was born August 3, 1959; a Leo, something he enthusiastically embraced.

Barry truly loved those around him. He led by example and taught us how to be open and giving with our love for each other. He was nonjudgmental. He was strong, resilient, and just a bit stubborn. He was a people person and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He gave the largest, most genuine hugs. You knew he was present, and he wanted you to feel his love. Barry was known for his spontaneous check-ins; just to see how you’re doing or to offer a word of encouragement. Barry enjoyed the years he volunteered as a Big Brother with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Barry had a deep passion for cars; especially his 1957 Chevrolet and his 1984 Monte Carlo.

Barry was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Rose, and his mother, Rose Marie Johnson.

Barry is survived by his beloved daughters, Jennifer (Paul) Paulson, Nicole Petersen Lundstrom, and Charisse (Josh) Craven; father, Harry (Sally) Petersen; siblings, Robyn (Rich) Renfroe, Troy (Katy) Petersen, Marty (Kathy) Petersen, and Marina (Chris) Herzog; grandchildren Maleea Kasper, William Peet, Hunter Paulson, Carter Lundstrom, and Aurelia, Freya, Barrett, and Eowyn Craven. Many Nephews, Nieces, Aunts, Uncle, Cousins, and friends.

Barry will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

In Barry’s honor, we ask that you reach out to your loved ones, accept one another, love big, drive fast every once and a while, and do some burn outs.
