life story

A loving mother

Biography

Angela Elaine Myers, born August 17, 1958, in Harlem, New York, was a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as her smile. The youngest of five children, she grew up in a close-knit family, learning early on the values of love, resilience, and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Gladys Myers, and her brothers, Marvin (Yvonne) and Frank, affectionately known as Buster (Barbara). She cherished a lifelong bond with her sisters, Hermandeane Myers of the Bronx, NY, and Sandra Rutledge (Earl) of Georgetown, SC. Her longtime partner, Raymond Joshua, shared in her life's adventures, creating cherished memories. Their love for each other was evident throughout their relationship.

Angela's heart was fullest when surrounded by family. She was the proud mother of six children: Ashley Elaine Myers, Ashton Herman Myers, Joshua Isaiah Myers, Amber Frances Myers, Jeynea Treasure Gray, and Jason Elijah Myers (Madeline Munoz); and grandmother to three grandchildren: Carter Myers, Milan Myers, and Liam Myers. Her children were the center of her world, and she celebrated their lives with the same joy and enthusiasm she brought to everything she did. She was the queen of encouragement, always seeing the best in her children and cheering them on. Whatever they pursued, she was convinced they were the best at it-"do the dang thing"— and if reality differed, she'd laugh and say another of her many catchphrases: "You ain't wrong, and I ain't mad at cha."

Angela had a love for life that was impossible to miss. She could often be found dancing to house music-or any song she could move to. Bringing energy, laughter, and life to every gathering, she was never shy at a party and was often the party starter-even if with only a flick of her wrist in her seat, and ideally showing off a fresh finger-wave hairdo, which she loved. She delighted in savoring good food and sweets. She always dressed with grace, confidence, and style-never half-stepping.

Angela attended and graduated from PS 55 Elementary School and William Howard Taft High School, both in the Bronx. She was also an undergraduate at Bronx Community College.

Angela had a playful, adventurous, and creative spirit. Growing up, she wanted to be a marketer. Anyone who knew her knew she could craft a rhyme, jingle, poem, or song about anything on the fly. Although she may not have had a degree in marketing, Angela was a natural marketer of herself-always presenting herself beautifully and confidently, never compromising who she was.

She was resourceful, deeply feeling, and full of love. Angela knew how to get things done-or knew the person who could. She was a mother to anyone who needed a place to stay, with a spirit of generosity that made her a cornerstone in her family's and friends' lives.

Angela Elaine Myers' legacy is one of joy: for her family, who will carry her spirit forward; for friends, who will forever remember her laughter and warmth; and for the world, which is brighter for having known her.

Mom requested a joyous gathering in lieu of a somber one. Anyone who knew her, shouldn't be surprised.
