About Drew

Andrew Thomas Ellis, born in Martin, South Dakota on July 28th, 1968, to John and Sally Ellis, passed away peacefully on February 28th at his home in Eden Prairie. He was a cherished son, father, brother, and friend, whose life was defined by his adventurous spirit, service to others, and boundless love.

Growing up in Richfield, Minnesota, Andrew was known as a loveable young man, who grew to enjoy playing goaltender in hockey, and a fierce competitor on the baseball diamond.  He spent many joyful hours fishing the local waters, fostering a love for the outdoors that would shape his life's journey.

After graduating from Richfield High School, Andrew answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Navy. He served as a petty officer on the USS Nimitz during the Gulf War, traveling across the globe and navigating the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. His dedication to duty and his fellow sailors was exemplary.

Following his military service, Andrew pursued a career as a mechanical technician, where his skills and expertise were highly valued. He approached his work with the same dedication and precision that he brought to every aspect of his life. He took great pride in his work and cherished the time he spent with the countless friends he made at work.

Andrew's greatest joy was found in his family. He was a devoted father to his sons, Hayden and Hunter. He cherished spending time with them, whether it was attending their sporting events, teaching them to fish and hunt, or simply sharing life's adventures together. Many days were spent listening to music or a ballgame on the radio, while a charcoal grill sizzled and he shared a game of catch with his boys.

Andrew's family fondly called him "the last American man" for his steadfast and quiet strength. Despite his strong, silent demeanor, his love for his family and the outdoors shone through in every aspect of his life. Whether he was deer hunting, birding, or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature, Andrew's zest for life was contagious.

Andrew will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving parents, John and Sally Ellis, his sons Hayden and Hunter, his significant other Ashley, his brother Mike, and his niece Marah, along with numerous other relatives and friends who were touched by his warmth, kindness, and unwavering generosity.
