About Allan

Allan D. Farrey, 84, of Edina, Minn., formerly of Benton and Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., died Oct. 4, 2025, in St. Paul. “Big Al” was born in Cuba City, Wis., on June 2, 1941, to Verden and Clarice (Cook) Farrey. He grew up in Benton, where he met his wife, Gayle, while "putting the gut" cruising down Main Street. They were married Aug. 12, 1967, and eventually settled in Wisconsin Rapids, where they raised three children, Brian, Kariann, and Corey. Al was a firm believer in education, as evidenced by his drive to get a master's degree in economics and by the number of years he spent teaching at Benton High School and Mid-State Technical Institute. He was also an avid sports fan and when he wasn't playing, he was coaching athletes in Benton in the late 60s/70s.

Al is survived by son Brian Farrey-Latz and his husband, Benji; daughter Kariann Farrey;

granddaughter, Piper Amundson; sister Barbara Stodden; and brother Ken (Sharon) Farrey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle; his son, Corey; brothers Harold (Sylvia), Keith (Vicki) and Don Farrey; brother-in-law Earl Stodden; and sister Lauretta Lade.

Al and Corey took care of one another following Gayle’s death in 2010, and when Corey died five years later, Al moved to the Twin Cities to live with Brian and his husband. Al was devoted to making life better for his family and was a staunch advocate for his children. He would always offer to call the governor for whatever bothered Kariann, and he was extremely proud of Brian’s accomplishments.

A gathering to commemorate Al will be held in Benton, Spring 2026, for family and friends.
