Laurelle J. Cottrell, 84, of Park Rapids, passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023 at the Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.

Laurelle was born March 22, 1939 in Moorhead, MN to Otto and Alice Kelting. In 1943 her family moved to Phoenix, AZ and then they returned to Moorhead in 1945. She attended school in Moorhead where she graduated in 1956.

Laurelle met and fell in love with Dan Cottrell from Glyndon, MN and they were married on June 6, 1958 at the Glyndon Lutheran Church.

Laurelle worked for Pioneer Life Insurance, Penn Life Insurance, Dekalb-Phizer Genetics, and Minnkota Motors until returning to school at the age of 50 to become a certified health aid. She worked as a heath aid for Eventide of Moorhead until moving to Park Rapids where she worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital until she retired.

Laurelle’s loves were her husband, partner, and best friend of 64 years, Dan Cottrell; her children, Reese, Cyle and Rhonda; her grandchildren, Brandon and Cody; and her great grandchildren, Bode and Cruze.

She was involved in numerous activities and organizations while raising her children and caring for many foster children. She had a great love of God, enjoyed nature, travel, camping, sewing, crafts, music and mostly teaching her grandsons and great grandsons about nature and God’s creatures.

Laurelle always met everyone with an infectious smile and an open door with coffee and cookies at the ready.

Laurelle is survived by her sister Karen (David) Johnson of Sedona, AZ; brothers-in-law, Art (Dorothy) Morris of ND, Richard Morris of SC, Terry Seter of ND; sisters-in-law, Yvonne (Erling) Kelting of WY, Karen (Ron) Offut of ND; son, Reese (Joyce) Cottrell of AK and FL; daughter, Rhonda Cottrell of ND; daughter-in-law, Lisa Cottrell of MN; grandsons, Brandon (Beverly) Cottrell of FL and Cody (Kristy) Cottrell of AK; great grandsons, Bode of FL and Cruze of AK.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Otto and Alice Kelting; her husband, Dan Cottrell; her brother, Erling Kelting; son, Cyle Cottrell; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Seter, John Seter; and sister-in-law, Ardis Wiese.

Much loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. We will miss you and love you forever.
